The 48th WorldSkills Competition brought together 1,385 competitors from 68 countries and regions across 64 skills. For OYH, the event provided an opportunity to support young professionals and highlight the relationship between material performance, skilled workmanship and the quality of finished work.
Materials and Skills at Work
Across the competition floor, years of training were evident in the smallest decisions. Tilers repeatedly checked dimensions, alignment and surface levels. Bricklayers worked to precise measurements as their structures took shape. Landscape gardeners combined practical skills, design interpretation and teamwork to complete their projects within the allotted time.
These tasks called for concentration, technical judgement and consistent execution. They also highlighted the importance of materials that work reliably in the hands of skilled professionals.
Products from VASA, an OYH brand, including tile adhesives, masonry mortars and grouts, were used in the Wall and Floor Tiling and Bricklaying competitions. Their application brought material performance into direct contact with the demands of precise positioning, careful adjustment and detailed finishing.
OYH’s team helped with the preparation and supply of these materials, providing product-related assistance where needed. This practical involvement complemented the company’s material contribution to the event.
Quality Through Every Stage
WorldSkills illustrated a principle that guides OYH’s work: quality depends on materials, application methods, professional skills and standards working together.
The position of a tile, the width of a joint and the sequence of operations can all affect the finished result. Material consistency and workability also matter, particularly when professionals need to make fine adjustments while maintaining accuracy.
For more than three decades, OYH has developed its approach to quality across raw material selection, research and development, manufacturing, testing, logistics and application. The VASA products supplied for the competition were developed and produced within this wider quality management framework.
OYH places application methods alongside product development because the two are closely connected. Laboratory performance and manufacturing consistency must translate into reliable results when materials are mixed, applied and installed. Training and clear application procedures help professionals make that connection in everyday work.
WorldSkills brought these priorities together in an international competition setting, where material performance and workmanship were visible throughout each task.
Investing in Skilled People
OYH’s commitment to skills extends beyond the competition. For more than a decade, the company has invested in training and professional development for the people who apply its materials.
Its work includes training in standardised application methods, trade skills competitions and vocational skills assessment. Together, these activities help practitioners develop their capabilities, gain recognition and pass on practical knowledge.
This investment reflects the role that tradespeople play in the quality of buildings. A carefully finished joint, a correctly applied waterproofing layer or a well-executed detail can have lasting consequences for a project. Reliable results depend on people who understand both the materials and the methods needed to use them.
Participating in WorldSkills connected this longstanding commitment with an international community of competitors, experts and industry partners who share an interest in developing professional skills.
Serving Different Markets
OYH’s products and services reach more than 150 countries and regions. Working across these markets requires an understanding of different climates, building requirements, working practices and customer expectations.
The company’s international development brings together material supply, system solutions and an understanding of local application needs. Each project provides an opportunity to put these capabilities into practice and build trust through dependable delivery.
Supplying materials for an international skills competition and serving a building project involve different requirements. Both depend on careful preparation, respect for standards and attention to the people carrying out the work. OYH’s participation in WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 offered a practical example of these priorities in action.
Following the event, OYH will continue investing in skills development and connecting application experience with product research and manufacturing. Working with tradespeople and industry partners worldwide, the company remains committed to helping turn professional materials and skilled workmanship into lasting quality in the spaces people use every day.
